Abstract: Most of the documents in various application areas like Government, Business and Research are available in the form of bi-lingual/multi-lingual text document. The multilingual documents are captured from video/camera for identification of script of the text document for automatic reading and editing. In this paper, an attempt is made to address the problem of script identification from camera captured document images using SFTA features. The input image is decomposed into a group of binary images by applying TTBD with fixing the number of the threshold as t n =3 empirically, on each decomposed binary image, Box Count, Mean Gray Level, and Pixel Count are extracted to form the feature vector. This feature vector is submitted to K-NN classifier to identify the scripts of the input document image. In all 10 scripts of the Indian languages are considered along with common English language as bi-lingual documents. The novelty of the paper is that 7 features are selected as potential features to obtain the highest accuracy. Features like Box Count (3), Mean Gray Level (2), and Pixel Count (2) have obtained the 87.02% recognition accuracy for English and Hindi Script combinations for the collected dataset and encouraging results for other combinations. These 7 potential features were selected using the technique named as feed-forward feature selection, from the set all 18 features.

Abstract: An Experimental investigation was carried out to find out combustion performance and emissions characteristics of diesel engine using nano-aluminum oxide (n-Al2O3) mixed diesel. The n-Al2O3 of size 50 nm was mixed into diesel fuel at the rate of 0.5g/l and 1g/l for formulation of new alternate fuels. The n-Al2O3 was dispersed by means of an ultrasonic sonificator in order to produce uniform dispersion of n-Al2O3 in the diesel fuel. Nano-Al2O3 possesses better combustion characteristics and enhanced surface-area-to-volume ratio and hence allows more amount of diesel to react with the oxygen which in turn enhances the burning efficiency of the test fuels. This also enhanced using neodymium magnets which separates the molecules of the clustered hydrocarbon. The magnets are fitted across the fuel line to give best magnetic field for the fuel to flow through. The diesel fuel with and without n-Al2O3 additive were tested in a variable compression diesel engine at different load conditions and the results revealed that a considerable amount of enhancement in the brake thermal efficiency and substantial reduction in content of NOx and unburnt hydrocarbon (UBHC) at all the loads compared to neat diesel were observed due to nano Al2O3’s better combustion characteristics and improved degree of mixing with air.

Abstract: Injection molding is one of the major manufacturing processes for thermoplastic polymers. In injection molding machine, process variables play a very important role in generating defects in products. In the present paper manufacturing of ball point pen is taken up to investigate the prevention of defects through design and controlling various process parameters. Two molds are designed and fabricated specially for this experimental work. The analysis showed that the defect occurrence has close relation with pressure, speed and the temperature of the injection molding machine in addition to the basic design of the mold. The paper suggests preventive actions for the defects like flash, burn marks, short shot, shrinkage, weld line, warpage and sink mark. The preventive actions were successfully implemented in manufacturing the ball point pen.

Abstract: Software Engineering (SE) is the application of essentials to deal with the analysis, design, development, testing, deployment and management – Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) – of software systems. Requirements Engineering (RE) is responsible for the most critical task in the SDLC; which is transforming the requirements and wishes of the software users into complete, accurate and formal specifications. One of the main responsibilities of RE is the creation of a software requirements document that exactly, reliably, and totally defines the functional and non-functional properties of the system to be developed. At some point through the RE process, the requirements are written using a Natural Language (NL). On one hand, NLs are flexible, common, and popular. On the other hand, NLs are recognized widely as inherently ambiguous. Ambiguity is noticed in a requirement document when a piece of text is interpreted in distinct ways. This may lead to erroneous software that is too expensive to correct in later phases of the SDLC. Many tools have been developed in the literature to detect ambiguities in requirements documents. Best practices for writing requirements have also been proposed to help avoid ambiguities in the first place. The goal of this paper is to combine features from both approaches by developing the Ambiguity Checker Tutor (ACTutor), which not only detects ambiguities, but also aids in tutoring requirements engineers to apply best practices while writing requirements (rather than merely listing them). The paper is mainly concerned with proving the tutoring effectiveness of AC Tutor through empirical evaluation.

Abstract: This paper introduces the novel approach to handle the situation for emergency vehicles like ambulance and fire trucks to avoid traffic to reach the destination in time in order to save the lives. This system architecture is based on Internet-of-Things (IoT) using cloud at its center. The proposed system uses real-time GPS to track the location of the vehicle and update the same to cloud , smart traffic signals which are in present in route of the vehicle are notified the same. system maintains the details on the emergency vehicles to pass through the traffic with no or minimum waiting time, thus reducing the number of deaths during the travel to hospital and conditions to reduce the loss of property in case of fire emergency.

Abstract: The reactive power compensation in power system is done by using different Flexible AC Transmission Controllers (FACTS). Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC) is simulated and analyzed to observe its overall functions when integrated into a transmission line. It is installed in electric transmission lines hence assisting in the controlling and manipulating of the power flowing in the lines to give out reliable, controlled and efficient electricity to an ordinary consumer. The modelling of this device UPFC was done based on the theory of line models which are short, medium and a long line models. Conclusion on which model to use was based on two factors. The first one is model voltage level and length of the transmission line. The simulation of the designed circuit models was carried out using MATLAB and the results were then analyzed.

Abstract: The aim of indoor localization is to locate the objects inside a location wirelessly. This paper reports the models that predict the location along with floor and coordinates from the WAPs (Web Access Points) signal strengths of a user who connects to the internet at a specific location which had three locations. Starting with the cleaning of data, then assigning attributes into proper data types, making subset of dataset for each location, examining each column, and normalizing WAPs rows in order to build models. Different algorithms have been used to predict the location, floor, and coordinates of a logged in user. The models that have been used in this paper are k-Nearest Neighbor (k-NN) for location prediction, random forest for floor prediction and regression with k-NN for coordinate prediction.

Abstract: For the upliftment of an economy, a healthy and strong banking sector is of paramount importance. The efficiency and viability of banks is much affected by the liquidity level they possess. Liquidity refers to the assets that are either in form of cash or immediately convertible into cash without any serious loss of time and money. Direct cash holding in currency or holding creditworthy securities including government bills with short term maturities provides liquidity to a bank. This paper investigates the factors that determine liquidity of Indian banks and compares the determinants in case of public and private sector banks. Using panel data, empirical analysis is carried out on the commercial banks of India for the period 2005 to 2017. The bank specific factors included are bank size, deposits, cost of funds, capital adequacy ratio, non performing assets and ROE. The result shows determinants of liquidity vary for both banking groups. Public sector banks with an increase in their size, increases the amount of liquid assets adequately to manage liquidity risk. However, private sector banks relying more on financial markets with their increasing size holds less liquidity.

Abstract: This paper presents a simple, cost-effective scheme for agricultural pumping system. It consists of PV array, canonical switching cell converter (CSCC), Boost inverter, and induction motor. The input power for the boost inverter is obtained from the photovoltaic (PV) based CSCC. The requirement of lower number of components and nonpulsating input current are the superior features of the CSC converter. The conversion of DC voltage obtained from the PV based CSC converter system into high voltage AC using the boost inverter is the main feature of the proposed scheme. Extraction of maximum power from the PV system is ensured in this paper by means of a P & O MPPT algorithm. Because of a high step up CSC converter and boost inverter, this scheme requires fewer number of PV arrays to power the induction motor for pumping system. Effectiveness of the proposed scheme is verified through MATLAB/SIMULINK environment and necessary results are presented.

Abstract: The government initiated social security schemes in countries such as India, target a large proportion of the population to provide various types of benefits that involve a number of stakeholders. Such schemes are executed by a large number of transactions between the Government agencies and the other stakeholders on a real time basis, thus resulting in large data sets. Current research advancements in the domain of social security schemes include analysis of sequential activities and debt occurrences for such transactions at the national level only. It has been a challenge in recent times to monitor and evaluate the performance of such gigantic schemes which also involves financial decision making at different levels. This paper proposes an innovative frame-work that combines data mining strategies with actuarial techniques to evaluate one of the popular schemes in India, namely AB-PMJAY (“Ayushman Bharat–Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana”) launched by the Government in 2018 at family level. In the proposed framework, the scheme has been divided into a number of sub-processes for which various data mining techniques such as, clustering, classification, anomaly detection and actuarial techniques for pricing are proposed to evaluate the scheme effective at micro level.
