Abstract: Farm mechanization in Indian agricultural sector has been significantly supported by Agri Engineering Manufacturing Companies. It helps in tumbling the drudgery and thereby increasing the productivity of the labour. Indian agricultural machinery manufacturing sector is quite challenging which consists of countryside farmers, traditional small units, common craftsmen and small scale companies. They are the unorganised manufacturers, who are lacking proper infrastructure, business model and technology intervention. Hence this research has been conducted to identify and analyse the factors influencing the sustainability of Agri Engineering Manufacturing Companies. In this study quantitative research has been carried out. Agri Engineering Manufacturing Companies (AEMC) of the state of Karnataka has been considered as the study population. A total number of 372 AEMC spread across various districts of Karnataka have been identified to conduct the research. Initially the critical factors influencing the Business Sustainability of AEMC have been identified through Pilot Study. Further the variables influencing the Business Sustainability factors have been identified by reviewing scholarly journal articles and feedback collected from the Entrepreneurs of AEMC. The final Survey Questionnaire has been developed and validated by the Focus Group Discussion consisting of the panel members from academic background and Industry experts. Primary data has been collectedthroughtelephonic interview, Google Spread sheet and personal interview from the identified AEMC with the help of final Survey Questionnaire. A total number of 354 valid responses were received out of 372 AEMC, thus achieving 95% of response rate.Data analysis has been carried out by using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences 25 (SPSS 25) and Analysis of Moment Structures 25 (AMOS 25). Reliability test has been conductedand the Cronbach’s alpha value 0.817 indicated a good level of internal consistency. Kaiser-MeyerOlkin and Bartlett’s Test has been conducted and the KMO value of 0.781was acceptable. Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) has been used to develop a model using the latent constructs such as Business Model, Innovation and Technology. There was significant improvement in the Goodness of Fit Statistics values when compared with the initial model and the new model. The Goodness of Fit Statistics values of the new model are Comparative Fit index (CFI) 0.988, Goodness of Fit Index (GFI) 0.958, Adjusted Goodness of Fit Index (AGFI) 0.923, Normated Fit Index (NFI) 0.956, Tucker Lewis Index (TLI) 0.980, Root mean square error of approximation (RMSEA) 0.031, Parsimony Normed-fit index (PNFI) 0.478 and these indicated a good model fit. The key findings of the research indicate that, there is a need to improve the technological infrastructure and operating mechanism for the business sustainability. Also there is need to improve R &D facilities and supporting policies necessary for innovativeness such as open innovation and motivation for employees who bring innovative ideas.

Abstract: The main purpose of this project is to identify the suitable radiator material for various working environments (such as coastal environment and desert-like high temperature environments) and applications. Hence in this project, the existing radiator is analyzed by changing its tube and fin material for evaluating the fluid flow and heat transfer characteristics. The materials chosen for analysis are Aluminium (Al), Al-Si-Mg alloy and Graphite flakes-metal alloy. Initially the required radiator model for analysis is designed and modelled using CREO Parametric 2.0. The overall pressure, temperature and mass flow rate distribution of the coolant and air in and around the tube-fin arrangement is evaluated using fluid flow (CFX) and steady state analysis systems of CFD. Stress Distribution over the radiator is evaluated using static structural analysis system of CFD. The fluid flow simulation is conducted using commercial software ANSYS. The heat transfer rate, heat flux and the pressure and temperature distribution along the tube length and tube width are presented and analyzed. The results obtained serve as good database for the future investigations.

Abstract: Premature failure is the major apprehension in graded coating systems. To determine the life span of the topcoat (Al2O3+ZrO2·5CaO), Muffle furnace technique was adopted. The topcoat thicknesses were varied in 100, 200 & 300 µm and applied on Cast iron substrate. A controlled heating (600±2°C) and ambient cooling in the cycle were carried out until the fracture acknowledges at the surface of the topcoat. Results obtained from SEM micrograph and EDX analysis revealed that thermochemical and thermomechanical stresses lead to premature failure of the topcoat. The coating reported failing from the bond coat and the same is remained intact with the substrate. After 312 thermal cyclic tests, spallation acknowledges in the case of 100 µm topcoat. The mechanism of failure for the above said graded composite coating discussed in detail.

Abstract: The advantageous characteristics of FRPs over any other caste of composites have provoked many researchers to take up the research on FRPs with different categories of reinforcement which acts majorly as the load carrying and distributing agents. Even though the methodology for synthesis of composites have wide spectrum of choices, it is of greater importance to conclude which method is best suited particularly. Here in this work an attempt is being made to synthesize hybrid FRPs with natural fibers as the reinforcements and the composite generated will be environmental friendly. Always the mechanical characterization of any composite manufactured plays a major role as it leads to deciding on the application area where they can be used without failure. Hence, once the hybrid FRPS are fabricated, the performance analysis on the basis of mechanical characteristics is performed. The comparison of composites with natural fibers as reinforcements along with the hybrid composites is made to obtain the conclusion of better composite. The results obtained reveals that the hybrid composites have better mechanical characteristics as compared to that of jute and glass fiber reinforced composites.

Abstract: Aluminium and its alloys normally solidify as columnar structure with finer grain size which results in improved microstructure and good mechanical strength.Al-10 wt. % cu alloy was produced using centrifugal casting technique by varying the rotating speed of the die on the time of solidification. The microstructure and mechanical behaviour are affected greatly by the solidification rate. In centrifugal casting faster solidification rate obtained compared to that of conventional casting (stir) method even though many parameters directly effect the solidification and the parameters may be listed as die wall thickness, temperature of pouring the metal in the molten state and the die rotating speed. This paper focus on the microstructure and mechanical properties of Al-10 wt.% cu alloy processed at various die rotational speeds of 700 rpm, 800 rpm and 900 rpm. Since rotational speed has direct effect on solidification, microstructure, hardness and tensile strength. The result shows that microstructure variation shows morphological changes of the secondary phase (Al2Cu) phase by decreasing in porosity. On the other hand mechanical properties, increases hardness values 97 52, 87 and 114±32 Mpa, and tensile strength is 56±5, 60±7 and 64±9 Mpa as compared to the lower casting speed at 700 rpm.

Abstract: Flexible Manufacturing Systems (FMS) are generation frameworks comprising of indistinguishable multipurpose numerically controlled machines (workstations), computerized material dealing with framework, instruments, stacking and emptying stations, investigation stations, stockpiling zones and a various leveled control framework. Occupation sequencing and directing are central parts of FMS. In this work, four section types and five machines has been utilized, for exact outcomes ‘L27’ array has been chosen, and the procedure factors as structured by utilizing Taguchi logic has been treated as info work for reproduction model of FMS to produce the throughput and system utilization for each machine every year. With the results obtained after inputting the data into Taguchi and ANOVA framework it is made clear that the system utilization is majorly affected by demand time followed by the distance preference. The velocity of cart plays a very small role in the changes. Whereas throughput is majorly influenced by demand arrival time followed by velocity of cart and the number of carts plays a small role.

Abstract: In recent times, there is considerable interest in the elaboration and use of bio-composites. Agricultural residues are preferred as reinforcements in these composites due to their abundant availability and need to find alternatives to the burning or burying of the residues which are one of the major causes of pollution. Sisal fiber is a widely available natural fiber which possesses excellent moisture and heat resistant properties. Attempts have been made earlier to study the properties of it reinforced with various reinforcements separately and as a hybrid with other fibers. In this study, it is been reinforced with polypropylene and the tensile, flexural and morphological properties have been analyzed. Furthermore, the flame resistance of the prepared composite was also determined. Tensile strength ranging from 22-52 MPa and flexural strength in the range of 57-120 MPa was obtained. The Young’s modulus varied between 1651-5420 MPa whereas the flexural modulus lied in 3064-5462 MPa range. The composites possessed a Rockwell Hardness Number of 58-92 depending on the ratios of reinforcement. Compression molding technique made the work simple and cost-effective to fabricate composites with good mechanical properties. Using the residues in their native form provides an opportunity to add substantial value addition and decrease waste. Simultaneously, a possible substitute for non-biodegradable products can be developed.

Abstract: Sweeping Jet Actuator (SWJ), when pressurized with high pressure fluid, emit continuously but spatially oscillating jets, which are self-induced and self-sustaining. The initiation and interaction of the internal flow and jet oscillation process of a actuator is well defined in this study. Transient as well as steady numerical analysis over a range of inlet velocities was performed. The velocity magnitude and total pressure contours are shown to justify the complex flow field within the sweeping jet actuator by varying the height and width of the feedback channel geometry.

Abstract: The present study aims at evaluating the aerodynamic coefficients of wing with and without propellers for various configurations at different locations. Also to ascertain the effect of clearance over the wing, wake survey analysis is performed for different clearances. It is observed that aerodynamic coefficients such as lift increased by 12 to 13% with a considerable reduction in drag of the order 2 to 3%, followed by increase in stall angle by 3° – 4°. The result is suitably bolstered by flow visualization technique, which indicated attached flow over the wing even at higher degrees of angle of attack. It is followed by an increase in dynamic pressure, being the obvious denouement to follow, therefore enhancing aerodynamic characteristics with an improved performance of UAVs.
