Abstract: Prestressed concrete bridges are crucial in modern infrastructure due to their high durability, low maintenance requirements, and superior load-carrying capacity. However, skew bridges, which feature a non-perpendicular alignment with traffic flow, pose significant challenges in analysis and design. This study presents a comprehensive parametric investigation into the behaviour of prestressed skew bridges to enhance structural understanding and optimize design strategies. Advanced finite element techniques are utilized to analyse the effects of prestressing forces, material properties, and geometric parameters on skew bridges. The study evaluates key structural responses, including bending moments, shear forces, torsional effects, and deflections, under various loading conditions, such as dead loads, moving loads, and prestressing loads, considering relevant IRC load combinations that account for seismic effects. This research analyses fifteen prestressed skew bridge models with varying spans and skew angles between 20° and 50° using MIDAS Civil software. Comparative results highlight the influence of skew angles on structural performance. The findings suggest that increased skewness has a significant impact on torsional behaviour and bending moment distribution. With advancements in computational tools, the precise estimation of structural responses is now possible, providing engineers with a better understanding of the design and analysis of prestressed skew bridges.

Abstract: This paper compares Solid-State Transformers with traditional low-frequency transformers to consider their suitability for temporary power infrastructure in emergency response scenarios and remote locations. While current solid-state transformers do not offer significant weight reductions or cost advantages over low-frequency transformers, they provide approximately 20% volume reduction and superior integration capabilities for diverse power sources and loads. Despite higher initial costs and maintenance challenges, solid-state transformers’ ability to accommodate renewable energy sources, enable direct DC connections and support distributed operations makes them particularly valuable for future applications in disaster recovery and off-grid power systems. The analysis suggests that as solidstate transformer technology matures and gains industry support, it will become increasingly critical for enhancing the flexibility and resilience of temporary power systems in disaster recovery and remote areas. Future research should focus on optimising power electronic components, particularly filter design, to reduce the solid-state transformer’s volume and weight and investigate reliability and maintenance requirements in challenging operational conditions.

Abstract: In Japan, the number of sewer culverts with a service life of 50 years has increased, and ageing facilities have become apparent. In recent years, therefore, robots have been used for pipe inspections. Thus, the robot must grasp the situation and perform actions to prevent tipping over in the pipe. Consequently, we have decided to explore a software approach to prevent tipping using driving control, aiming to achieve highly accurate self-position estimation, which is necessary for this approach to be practical. Although we have established a basic localisation method based on our previous research, a small estimation error remains due to the influence of tire shape. Therefore, we propose a highly accurate localisation method that utilises a neural network to compensate for this estimation error. However, a large amount of teacher data was required to achieve this. For this reason, this research develops a three-dimensional position-measuring instrument that can quickly perform many measurements with high accuracy using two commercially available manipulators. This paper presents a three-dimensional position-measuring machine that can quickly perform high-precision and highvolume measurements using two commercially available manipulators. The paper demonstrates how to connect two manipulators utilising a ball joint and proposes a highly accurate measurement theory utilising an IMU. Furthermore, we confirm that the accuracy of the contact-type three-dimensional positionmeasuring is within 1 mm on average for translation error, within 1 deg on average for angular error, within 1 mm for the standard deviation of translation error, and 1 deg for the standard deviation of angular error except for 0 γp3, even in the initial state without calibration. This result shows that the method can be used in a neural network to correct estimation errors.

Abstract: In this paper, we present a novel approach to addressing existing sewage pipeline system challenges by designing a new blending instrument that operates using the force exerted by sediment within the pipelines. The instrument incorporates an impeller that suspends particles along the pipeline flow, effectively preventing blockages. This innovation enhances the efficiency of the pipeline system and mitigates issues inherent in the current pipeline infrastructure. The impeller blade is designed for installation inside the pipeline, requiring minimal maintenance while capable of withstanding the corrosive environment of sewage systems. This is particularly critical given the highly acidic conditions, as evidenced by a maximum recorded pH value of 4.5 in the sewage.

Abstract: The widespread adoption of Internet of Things (IoT) networks has introduced new cybersecurity challenges, particularly wormhole attacks. These attacks pose a significant threat to IoT environments by manipulating network routing without altering packet contents, making them difficult to detect using traditional intrusion detection systems (IDS). This study examines the application of machine learning (ML) techniques for detecting wormhole attacks in Internet of Things (IoT) networks. The research compares five machine learning classifiers: Sparse Representation Classifier (SRC), Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP), Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA), Quadratic Discriminant Analysis (QDA), and XGBoost, based on metrics such as accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score, and computational efficiency. Data preprocessing techniques were applied to a publicly available IoT dataset to improve the performance of these models. Among the classifiers tested, XGBoost demonstrated superior performance with a detection accuracy of 99.97%, outpacing both traditional and deep learning models. The results highlight the potential of ensemble learning approaches in enhancing IoT security, especially for real-time applications in resource-constrained environments. The study emphasises the importance of striking a balance between detection accuracy and computational efficiency when selecting models for dynamic Internet of Things (IoT) networks. Future work will explore federated learning and hybrid deep learning models to further improve the detection capabilities of wormhole attacks in IoT settings.
