Abstract: Waste fires are one of the biggest problems in India that cause various problems to the environment and human health. This article thoroughly investigates the negative impacts of waste fires on the environment, public health, and the economy, emphasising the need for sustainable waste management practices, investment in waste management infrastructure, and stricter fire safety regulations, using India as a case study. Education and waste management awareness programs are also essential tools for promoting behavior change and achieving cost savings. The implications of waste management policies and practices in India and other developing countries are also discussed, including the need to promote sustainable waste management practices, enhance fire safety measures, encourage public participation, and strengthen regulatory frameworks. Overall, this research underscores the importance of addressing waste fires and promoting sustainable waste management practices to achieve a safer, healthier, and more sustainable society. The possible solution to the issue of waste management and waste fires in India is widely discussed in this article to provide an overview for the effective management of waste materials.

Abstract: The economic crisis in Sri Lanka has significantly influenced people’s lives, leading to shortages of basic needs such as medicine, food, and fuel. The prevailing situation has taken the country further away from achieving Sustainable Development Goal 7, which is to provide affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all. Despite the potential for renewable energy, Sri Lanka’s key energy sources are primarily oil and coal. Therefore, the government had to revise the electricity tariffs recently to cover the cost of coal. As a result, most people are still unaware of the electricity bill value they expect at the end of the month. This study proposes a web-based system that focuses on the micro-level aspects of the problems mentioned above. The monthly electricity bill prediction is a vital component of this system, guiding users to adopt a cost-effective electricity consumption pattern. The system also operates an online donation program, aiming to provide long-term energy solutions to recognised rural communities, thereby addressing the issue of energy poverty in these regions. The work involved in incorporating these technologies into a web application is further explained in this research, accompanied by architectural diagrams. Furthermore, literature reviews were conducted to facilitate comparisons and interpret the results, ultimately leading to a definitive conclusion.

Abstract: The objective of this paper is to perform a laboratory test on the performance of MPPT control in a nanogrid. The components used for tests are described, namely (i) a PV module SPP031001200 manufactured by Victron energy, a prototype of a synchronous buck converter controlled by Arduino Atmel ATmega V-2560, and a DC electronic load programmable 72-13210 manufactured by TENMATM. Among several MPPT controls, the choice falls on the methods Perturb and Observe “P&O” and Increment of the conductance “INC”, which are more widely used than others. Laboratory tests were conducted with various PV module conditions and variable output voltages. In full sunlight, the input power of the buck converter gives a better result with the INC method compared to the P&O method. For a PV module exposed to horizontal or vertical total shading, the INC method provides a slight advantage over the P&O method, which can be beneficial in the long term. Compared to the P&O method, the INC method always gives better results due to its more complex algorithm. Due to the lack of measuring instruments, the different tests were performed without considering irradiance and temperature.

Abstract: Progressive collapse starts when any load-carrying elements of the building collapse during extreme loading, such as earthquakes, blasts, or fire. The Precast Steel Reinforced Concrete (PSRC) buildings comprise of precast RCC columns and steel girders. These structural elements are connected to form a moment-resisting frame and are susceptible to progressive collapse. However, this structural system has the advantage of inherent stiffness and damping during lateral loads and is also known for its construction efficiency, lightweight and low cost. Earlier investigations have shown PSRC systems useful in designing and constructing buildings while maintaining ample strength and high ductility during seismic incidents. Despite extensive previous research, the use of the PSRC structural system is limited in high-seismic regions. This paper aims to investigate the progressive collapse of the PSRC building using nonlinear dynamic analysis and guidelines from the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) during extreme loading. Two structures are studied to validate the performance of the progressive collapse of PSRC and RCC structures—the Indian Codes of Practice design four-story PSRC and RCC buildings. Design columns under provisions of the Indian reinforced concrete structures code, and beams are designed according to the Indian steel construction code. Comparative studies of progressive collapse for the two buildings are presented.

Abstract: Nowadays, the importance of implementing a secure communication system that protects the privacy and confidential information from cyber-attacks and eavesdroppers is widely recognized. This requires developing solutions that not only address security issues but also do not affect the speed of our system. To achieve secure communication, most security systems rely on random number generators, which play a vital role in the encryption process; the more randomness, the greater the security. In this paper, we propose a methodology for designing and implementing a novel random generator by using Lorenz chaotic signals. The proposed chaotic random generator CRN has been tested using NIST’s Statistical Test Suite for Random and Pseudorandom Generators for Cryptographic Applications, and results have been discussed.

Abstract: Phishing attacks continue to pose a significant threat to internet users worldwide. Cybercriminals often send phishing links through various channels, such as emails, social media platforms, or text messages, to trick users into disclosing their sensitive information, including passwords, usernames, or credit card details. This stolen information is then used to perpetrate various types of fraud or sold on the dark web for profit. To combat this problem, various machine learning-based solutions have been developed for detecting phishing websites. However, these solutions vary in their effectiveness, with some focusing on URLbased algorithms while others concentrate on website content. This paper proposes a machine learning-based approach to realtime phishing website detection, focusing on the website’s URL, domain, page content, and overall content. The proposed framework will be implemented as a browser plug-in, which can identify phishing risks as users visit websites. The framework integrates several techniques, including blacklist interception, whitelist filtering, and machine learning prediction, to improve accuracy, reduce false alarm rates, and minimise computation times. The proposed approach also incorporates user feedback to update the phishing probability over time, thereby increasing the accuracy of detecting phishing websites. This feedback loop involves users reporting suspected phishing websites to the system, which then updates the phishing probability calculation with new information to improve its accuracy. The significance of this research lies in its ability to provide real-time phishing detection capabilities, which can help protect internet users from falling victim to phishing attacks. Furthermore, the use of machine learning-based algorithms and user feedback ensures that the system is continuously updated to remain effective against new and emerging threats.

Abstract: In today’s era, people often go to restaurants. Therefore, effective hotel management is essential to attract more customers. To enhance it, a VR model is being developed. The primary purpose of this VR model is to minimise customer interaction with servers and to improve customer satisfaction. VR not only increases satisfaction but also enhances user-friendliness. The existing system utilises pen-based technology to select menu options. However, in the updated system, a touchscreen has been enabled to increase accuracy. Customers can order or place their menu through a VR device preinstalled at their tables to reduce manpower.

HRIS with Decision Support for Faculty Appraisal and Promotion

Abstract: Of all the resources of the organization, manpower is the only live generating resource. It utilises all other resources, and as a matter of fact, without which none of the different resources would be able to produce anything. Therefore, manpower should be appropriately managed so that they are encouraged to be productive and contribute to the realisation of the organisation’s goals. This study aimed to develop an online decision support system that would aid Cagayan State University in managing its human resources, particularly in terms of appraisal and promotion, by providing relevant and timely information. The system is designed to streamline processes in the HR department, simplifying the generation of necessary analytics for decision support. Moreover, the study utilised a classification data mining technique to classify faculty members into appropriate ranks and sub-ranks based on their CCE and QCE points, and to identify faculty members whose rank had not improved in the past 6 years. A decision tree was also used to predict the faculty performance based on the three (3) consecutive NBC 461 cycle results. This decision support information is essential for management to have, so that necessary interventions can be made to help the faculty member improve and advance. With the use of ISO/IEC 25010:2011 Software Quality Standards, the system was evaluated by IT Experts with a mean of 4.70, qualitatively described as “Very Great Extent”.

Abstract: Radiologists generally use mammogram images for extracting masses or cancer-affected breast issues using texture features of the images by segmenting techniques. The most commonly used technique in this process is the region of interest (ROI). However, this method fails for an extensive collection of mammogram image databases. To address this issue, this paper proposes a multi-ROI (M-ROI) technique. This method not only reduces the limitations of ROI but also identifies suitable texture features. This paper also evaluated the efficiency of the proposed M-ROI method using first-order and second-order statistical techniques. ues

Abstract: Nowadays, technology is growing at a rapid rate. Notably, the use of electronics is increasing in various ways, depending on their intended purpose and individual preferences. In this regard, multipliers play a vital role because they enable us to perform complex arithmetic operations involving large numbers more efficiently. Instead of performing a series of addition or subtraction operations, a multiplier allows us to operate a single step within no time, which is the challenge of today’s world. In addition to being more efficient, multipliers also have practical applications in fields such as engineering, computer science, and cryptography, which are also used, for example, in the design of digital circuits and the encryption and decryption of data. Overall, multipliers play a crucial role in mathematics and its applications, serving as essential tools for performing complex computations efficiently. Compressors play a vital role in achieving high-speed multipliers. In error-resilient applications such as Image processing, Multimedia, and Matrix multiplication, approximate computing is used, which provides meaningful results faster with lower power consumption. In previous work, the compressors were designed using full adders, which provide accurate results. The 4:2 and 5:2 approximate compressors are then introduced with 18% delay reduction and ADP reduction up to 52%. The further work concentrated on implementing a 7:2 Approximate Compressor-based multiplier to enhance the performance of multipliers. The proposed design is expected to provide the maximum reduction in area, delay, and power consumption, while achieving a speed improvement compared to the 4:2 and 5:2 compressor-based approximate multipliers.
